Leonie McCrann

I’m Leonie McCrann, and I am the CEO of Marbral Advisory, a Jersey change advisory practice.

  • What my job involves

Juggling and lots of it! I head up Marbral Advisory across all jurisdictions but I also continue to work with our clients delivering effective change, as this is what I am passionate about.  Our projects range from digital strategy development and technical implementation right through to merger and acquisition support and organisational design and development. On a day to day basis, I could be working with a client or meeting with the team or creating a proposal for new business or working with our partners on an exciting new product or service.

  • How I got into this profession

I did an Information Technology and Business degree at university. I then worked for major IT corporations including HP and for Irish Government as a software engineer before moving to Jersey. I became interested in project management because I love problem solving and I wanted a role which would give me a range of new experiences and challenges. It was from project management that I developed an interest in strategy design, organisational culture and change management.

  • Qualifications or skills needed for the role

A degree in plate spinning! I completed my PRINCE2 and PMP qualifications along with Lean Six Sigma, Change Management and Business Analysis qualifications.

  • Being a woman in tech

People are always surprised when I tell them I started out my career as a software engineer.  I’m not sure why it would be surprising but perhaps it isn’t a traditional career path. I have faced considerable challenges along the way, but I feel that each one has made me stronger, more determined and more resilient. Without challenge, you are standing still.

I have the most amazing team for which I am so very grateful.

  • What I enjoy most about my job

The variety and the freedom. Not one day is the same as the last, the challenges are always changing, as are the faces. I also enjoy the freedom to work the way I enjoy and on the types of projects that interest me.

  • An interesting project i’ve been involved in

I worked with an international bank to research and develop a strategy for a standalone digital bank. It was fascinating to meet with some of the companies who were at that time making a name for themselves in areas such as digital KYC and identity management.

  • Interests

I am interested in the psychology of leadership and organisational culture. I think it is fascinating to observe these and the impacts they have.
